Gianluca Reali coordinates the Networks and Services Research Groups of the Dipartimento di Ingnegneria Elettrnica e dell'Informazione (DIEI), Univeristy of Perugia. The main areas of his research activities are in the fields of Telecommunication Networks and Computer Science, specifically IP networking (Architectures, QoS, pricing, resource discovery, network management and fault localization), Distributed Computing, Service Deployment Architectures, overlay networks (Content Distribution Networks, including digital cinema distribution systems). and, recently, Biological nano-network systems.

Previous reseach activites have included Satellite Communications, Wireless and Cellular Communication Systems (Spread Spectrum based access protocols, channel equalization), Digital Video and Audio Broadcasting, LAN and  Positioning and Navigation Systems, Overlay networks (Content Distribution Networks, including digital cinema distribution systems).

A synthetic list of Gianluca Reali?s educational and professional milestones are reported in chronological order in what follows:

1991: Internship at Alenia Spazio S.p.A., Ground Segment Division,Rome, working at the research project ?Counteraction of additional rain attenuation in satellite communications?, with application to the Italsat I satellite. Master thesis project developed under the supervision of Dr. Francesco Martinino.

1991:He graduated (equivalent to Master degree) in Electronic Engineering at the University of Perugia, Summa cum laude.  Advisor: Prof. Saverio Cacopardi.

1992-1993: Technical officer of the Italian Army at the ?Stabilimento Militare Materiali delle Trasmissioni?, in Rome. Main activity: management of Telecommunication infrastructure.

1993: Best scored in the contest for obtaining a three-years scholarship for accessing the PhD program in Electronic Engineering at the University of Perugia, Institute of Electronics.

1997: He receives the PhD degree at the University of Perugia, by defending the thesis ?Spread Spectrum Techniques for Indoor Radio Communications?; advisor: Prof. Saverio Cacopardi.

1997: Post-doc researcher at the University of Perugia.

1997: He obtained a tenure position as researcher at the University of Perugia , Institute of Electronics, in the field of Telecommunications and Networking.

1999-2000: Visiting researcher at the Computer Science Department of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), doing research in Networking and Computer science within the research team of Prof. Mario Gerla.      

2005: He obtained a tenure position as Associate Professor at the University of Perugia, where he coordinates the research and experimental activities in the research area of Telecommunication and Computer Networks.
