The prefixed aim for which we had used the
software OPNET Modeler 7.0 was to simulate a network based on the new
technology called Switch layer 2/3 (through which to organize a VLAN network)
that is Switch with routing task (especially
IP routing). The reasons that these new devices were born was to create
VLAN between LAN with different IP
addresses. The most simple network project can be seen here.
We now see greater software characteristics :
- The
first thing to do was to see if
the devices that composed the network were inside the software library: as
can be seen from the figure
there are greater network
industries but I need devices projected for the occasion.
- The
next thing was to create Switches through the path that can be seen here:
the main characteristics that can be set up are the packet per second and
the number of ports which have to compose the device.
- At
this point I need to enter inside the device to set up the single ports
characteristics of bit per second and packet format (see the figure
).
- Being
the server/client network, the next thing to do was to set up server
characteristics (see the figure).
- With
the Profile Definition and Application Definition icons
it is
possible define the traffic models.
- The
last thing was to set up the Switches to define the VLAN structure (see
the figure).
- An
ulterior software characteristic was to duplicate project scenarios because, if had to change the
project a little, it can be compared with
results after simulations were terminated (see the figure).
Now the network is ready to be simulated: as
can be seen in the it is possible from the simulation figure have generals
statistics, nodes statistics
and links statistics.
After simulation is terminated it is possible,
through results command, to analyze the results set up at the precedent point(Click
here to see some
results).
